Lincoln Evangelical Church
Jesus said … “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matt. 11:28
Lincoln Evangelical Church was founded in 1994. The first services were held in the Grandstand Community Centre,on March 27; in July, Rev James McClatchey became the pastor. There were 41 members at the foundation service on October 4.
Under God’s blessing, the church grew, and the church began to seek a building. Prayers were answered in 1999, when we were offered Prospect Hall in Uffington Close, Hartsholme, at a nominal cost. The Open Brethren had served the Lord there for many years, but their numbers had declined, and they were glad to see others taking over.
Pastor McClatchey retired in 2001 and returned to Northern Ireland.
Robert Dale became pastor in 2002 and retired in 2016. During this time the church continued to grow slowly but steadily; there are now over 50 members. The various activities of the church expanded, with a youth group and two Toddlers groups added to the already existing children's work. Monthly House Groups were started in 2011; the Ladies Meeting has grown and a Men's Meeting has been started. Above all, there have been a number of baptisms and one trusts that the Lord's people have grown in their faith.
Jonathan Gravil became pastor in September 2016, having previously been pastor of a church in Greenwich. Many new people have begun to attend the services, major improvements have been made to the building, and ways are being considered of extending our outreach, especially to the Hartsholme estate.
We look confidently to the future, with the simple desire to glorify God – “Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus, throughout all ages” (Ephesians 3.21).
